What is Foreign Degree Evaluation?

I was trying to inquire with couple of universities and learnt a new word “Foreign Degree Evaluation”. I’m just not sure what that means, What process is involved for that? Could you help me know about that on how that is done and what are the requirements.

Foreign Degree Evaluation in California
Some Universities require Foreign degrees to be evaluated before your application will be processed.
Evaluation requirements should be listed in Admission requirements page.
Schools will list the companies that can be used to get foreign degree evaluation
The evaluation should indicate the equivalent U.S. degree and major area.

Lets say you have completed your degree/education outside US. Universities you apply might not even heard about your school/university. How would they evaluate your application, if they don’t know the value of the degree. That's when, you must have your credentials evaluated in order to have them understood and recognized.

What if you print your mark sheets and degree certificates?  Such problems can be solved by transcripts evaluation. Some students have asked quetions about impact of submitting fake degree certificates and this happens from application received from India.

How to Apply

1. Interested applicants must submit all of the application materials online to be considered for this position. We do not accept hand-delivered, e-mailed, faxed or postal mailed application packets.

All applicants will have an opportunity to upload an equivalency form for evaluation by a college equivalency committee when completing our online application process.

5. Applicants with foreign degrees must provide official certification of equivalency to United States degrees. All applicants will have an opportunity to upload a foreign degree evaluation for review of by a college equivalency committee when completing our online application process. Please read more details in the Foreign Degree and Credit Statement section of the job announcement.

6. Documents uploaded online must be the actual documents to be considered for review. Do not upload a "placeholder" document. Applications with placeholder documents are considered incomplete and will be rejected. Only upload the required documents, other materials can be presented if you are selected for an interview.

7. All application materials become the property of the district and will not be returned or duplicated.

If universities receive fake certificates frequently, then they would want all applicants transcripts to be evaluated.
